Homework & Grading Policy

My Grading Policy is as follows:

90-l00 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
69 and below = F

On Thursday  I’ll send home all completed work. If you see a paper with a Redo on it please have your child redo the work. When all answers are corrected I’ll change the failing grade to a 70. Tests may not be corrected. Parents are encouraged to check over homework and help their children to understand and correct errors.

Progress reports are sent home weekly if your child has a failing grade.

Student Work:

  • Daily assignments are due by 2:45 that day (with the exception of make-up work).
  • Teachers will grade assignments on work completed.
  • All students must have first name, last name, and date on the assignment.
  • If name and/or date are missing, 10 points will be deducted from the student's grade.
  • State Mandate—any work not turned in will receive a grade of zero.
  • If a student cheats, a grade of zero will be given on that assignment
  • Teachers will accept and award partial credit for late work turned in within three consecutive school days of the due date. Ten points will be deducted from the grade per day.

Redoing Work (Redos):

  • Students may redo assignments and assessments, at the teacher’s discretion, if the grade received is 69 or below.
  • Students will be given one opportunity to correct and return the assignment within three school days.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to turn in redos; teachers will not remind students.
  • The highest grade a student can earn on a redo is 70 (AISD policy).
  • If a redo is not completed and turned in on time, the original grade stands.

Long Term Projects and Reports:

  • Teachers will accept and award partial credit for late projects turned in within three consecutive school days of the due date. Ten points will be deducted from the grade per day. Parents are encouraged to offer guidance; however, only the student's work will be accepted.

Homework:

  • Homework is part of a child's 9 weeks personal development grade.
  • All students are required to complete homework.
  • Homework received after the due date is counted late.
  • Students are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes each night, Monday - Friday.
  • Students should rean non-fiction text 2 or more times for nightly reading each week.

Worksheets and Extra Copies:

  • Students are responsible for all worksheets passed out in class; teachers will not recopy.

Absences:

  • Students are responsible for completing work they missed when absent. It is the student's responsibility to ask the teacher what he or she missed and what needs to be made up.
  • The due date for make-up work will be written on the assignment.

Tips for homework

  • Make sure your child writes down all homework in their agenda. I update this every day on the chalkboard.
  • Finishing all their homework before they are allowed to play sometimes helps to motivate them to complete all of their work.
  • setting a regular time;
  • choosing a place;
  • removing distractions such as TV, radio, and siblings;
  • having supplies and resources onhand;
  • monitoring assignments; and
  • providing guidance.
